My Coaching Philosophy
At Drummery, coaching goes beyond technique—it’s about tapping into who you are and where you want to go. My background is rooted in real-world drumming: live gigs, studio work, collaborative projects, and the quiet practice rooms where real progress is made. I’ve learned from trial and error, from mentors who shaped my path, and from watching how people transform when they’re seen, supported, and challenged. My coaching combines that experience with a natural ability to connect with people and draw out their best. Drummers come to me looking for progress—and they stay because they feel understood.
"The One Lesson That Changed Everything"
Back in the early 90s, I was drumming professionally in a theatre production. Night after night, it was the same setlist, same cues, same crowd energy. One night, the musical director--a man who had worked with some major names--pulled me aside and said, 'You’re not just playing the drums. You’re directing the energy of the entire cast. Don’t ever forget that.' That moment hit me hard. It shifted my entire mindset from being a drummer to becoming a leader behind the kit. I realized drumming isn’t just about technique--it’s about presence, flow, and intention. That’s the heart of The Drum Coach. It’s not about teaching rudiments or fills. It’s about coaching drummers to think differently, perform differently, and be different. That one insight is why I coach drummers today instead of just teaching them.
